Fall is here…or is it a heat wave?

October 14, 2011

My birthday is upon us, which means it’s fall and that I have been sending many annoying emails to my parents about presents I want.  Actually I just really want a Lego Volkswagen van.  I mean, I’m no historian but I would say that this is a very reasonable present for a 27-year-old woman.

In addition to it being almost November, it is HOT in SF, so hot that I used my sock monkey ice pack given to me by my cousin Janeix for the first time.  I also used a cooling mask as a headband.  I also made hamentaschen.  All very normal things to do in times of heat waves.

I have not been blogging in almost a month.  This is due to:

1. increased twitter usage

2. watching all of Downton Abbey, Russian Dolls, Parks and Rec, The Playboy Club (RIP), and Pan Am

3. being addicted to writing Yelp reviews

4. feeling inferior to this site

5. laughing at things my dad says

That said, I apologize.  I am  very impatient person and I apologize to people who wanted to hear my fascinating thoughts.

People said these things in regards to the loss of the blog and its reincarnation:

“I feel a deep sense of loss for Self Promotion.  Julia is able to make the human situation comical and real at the same time.”  President Obama

“Julix, why aren’t you blogging?” Bunny Alexander, longtime reader

“It has been difficult to report the news without Julia’s voice in the media.” NYTimes

“B and I are relieved that Julia is now blogging again.  We could not imagine bringing a child into the world without her vision of America.”  Jay-Z

I appreciate these kind words.

I now will leave you with a picture that I think sums up my feelings on America, the economy, and the 2012 election.

San Francisco Events–Julix-style

August 14, 2011

Giants Jewish Heritage night was fun.  Spent much of the night eating a sandwich and chatting, which was probably better than watching Timmy lose.  I sometimes feel the Giants should give me a shot pitching.  Sexist, anyone?

Today Charlix, my animals editor, came over and we discussed future plans for an animals of Orinda article featuring her bunnies and dogs.  I made Charlix a breakfast and I photographed it on the floor in the light–probably not the MOST sanitary, but it’s ok.

I plated it for her and she found my plating to be “too much food,” but did her best to finish it.  Charlix is very excited to be the animals editor.

In other news, Nora, the gossip editor, helped create fabulous pirate costumes for the Yelp Pirate Party on Forbes Island–which is a barge off of Pier 41.  Quite fun! Nora took inspiration from Lady Gaga and Captain Jack Sparrow.

My only issue with Nora is that she said that my camera accounts for a lot of my photography skills.  Artists are not without their tools, but I am a true artist.

Here is my favorite dog:

Balenciaga–whatta G. How I spent my mother’s day.

May 9, 2011

Yesterday for mother’s day, my mom wanted to go see Balenciaga’s fashion exhibit at the De Young.  I normally hate going to the De Young, especially on a busy weekend day, but it was mother’s day and my parents’ have a membership, so off we went.  It was WAY crowded with children/moms/everyone.  I don’t like having to stand close to loud people, so it was a bit difficult for me.  The only thing in the show that I might actually wear was this brown gabardine raincoat with a huge pointy hood.  I really wanted to take it home.  This is a new theme for me in museums.  I wish they were more like stores.  Don’t you?  My mom and I asked my dad what his favorite dress was and he said he liked one with polka dots.  We both thought this was funny and I wondered if he really liked it because I have never thought of him as having an opinion about women’s fashion.

We then proceeded to the Arboretum which is no longer free unless you are an SF resident.  We walked around and noticed how the park had changed.  My mom said that the geese here used to bite my feet as a baby, and I told her that this was actually something that happened to my sister.  I have always been able to defend myself against animals, unlike my sister.  As I have stated previously in the blog, I recently beat 2 boys in arm wrestling, and I am sure there are more out there that are just too afraid to compete with me.

I watched Dear Zachary last night and it was very depressing, but also very well done.  I recommend it for anyone interested in Canada, families, or crime.  I don’t recommend it for people that don’t like sad stories.  I don’t want to give too much away.

I think this dress is crazy.  I don’t think I would wear it.  I think that my mom wanted it.  Maybe I will get it for her for next year.

Tonight I am dining with blog celebrities, Alyssa and Eliza.  They are some of the only actors/singers that I enjoy on a regular basis.

I have a new goal in my life: to become Yelp Elite.  I have been writing a lot of yelp reviews to try to achieve this goal.  It is sort of consuming me.   My reviews are going to make me a star.  I went to a Yelp Elite party in London and it was open bar and very fun, hence my motivation.
