Sometimes I am shocked by what people pay people to do for them–plant flowers, decorate their house, clean their bathroom. If these things could be my job, I’d gladly take them. Just my profound thought of the day.

Succulent plants are my new favorite thing. Here are some of them and also some of my “decor” that either makes me look like I am 4-years-old or crazy. This is part of an ongoing series called ”4-years-old or crazy: let the audience decide.”

Well, not not really. I told someone the other day that the reason I had been neglecting the blog was because I was “living life.” Puke.

I saw My Week with Marilyn today and I really related to the story. I look a lot like her and Matt is British. My main qualm with the movie is that Michelle Williams is not curvaceous really at all. I think they may have used hip pads in certain scenes. It did not look normal.

Recently I’ve been achieving a lot of my dreams:

1. Buying Michael Graves from Target canisters.

2. Seeing Christopher Meloni live at the Wet Hot American Summer live radio play. Thank you to Jono for making sure we bought tickets to this. I have to tell you, Eliot is no shrimp, he is RIPPED. Especially compared with a bunch of waif-like and out of shape comedians.

Today I was with my mom on Fillmore Street and she said the the Jonathan Adler store reminded her about everything bad about the 60s. I agree. If people like that can be famous for ripping off my grandma’s apt in Florida, I should probably just open a design store tomorrow. I do not understand it. Mindy Kaling once said on Twitter that she would buy all her Judaica from Jonathan Adler if she were Jewish. I therefore thought it might be cool, but no. I was wearing my backpack in the store and almost broke some ugly white bowls. I wish I had. He has enough money to cover my damages.

If you were not aware, Self Promotion is interested in a few new subjects.

1. Flea market/antiques/interior design. Basically buying cool decorative and practical things at the cheapest possible cost. Basically feel superior to traditional furniture and design stores. You can expect some posts regarding purchases we have made and stores that we love.

2. Plants. If you are interested in learning about plants, we are probably not the best person to speak with, but we can discuss light and water for plants with you. That is probably something you already knew.

3. Writing Yelp reviews. We have written over 250 reviews in the past 6 months.

4. Hating MUNI. This is not a new thing, but it’s something that we suffer with on a daily basis. It’s chronic.

5. Watching videos of animals doing funny things and children doing funny things. I think we might be some of the only people who love doing this. We are so unique.

Jose revives the blog with a nudge and a massage

Tonight Jose, Ted, and I ate dinner in front of the TV, just like Americans across the country. We watched some amazing/horrible shows on TLC, and I asked Jose to give me a hand massage. Being the lovely man he is, he obliged. I told him that it was medically necessary for me to get hand massages because I do so much typing. He said, “I don’t see you typing any new blogs.” He was right. No one had inspired me until recently. I hate to say it, but I was tired of writing about myself. Shocking, yes, I know.

Some updates regarding me on my 2-month plus hiatus:

1. I have been engrossed in growing succulent plants. I call them my succulent children. They’re really quiet and they don’t eat much. They just like sitting in the sun.

2. I have become increasingly interested in scented candles.

Me: I’ve been discovering that I love scented candles. I didn’t know this about myself.

Charley: OMG, Julix, I feel exactly the same way.

Yes, I’m becoming a crazy person.

New art technique: putting pretty things in glass jars and containers. Inventive, yes.

Yesterday Julia, Erica and I met up at one of our favorite Sunday hot-spots: the Stonestown Mall. If you looked up mallrat in the dictionary you would likely find pictures of Erica and I as 7th graders. After catching up over some Panda Express, sushi, and Korean noodles, we checked out shoes at Nordstrom. We were taken by the plethora of sparkly wonders!

We also found one fit for ridicule.

Back at our respective homes, Julia and I continued to think about shoes, which reminded me of this gem of a song:

I learned a lot about Coco and her husband Ice T through watching their reality show [ed. note: Nora originally wrote "their reality shoe"] Ice Loves Coco.” While their beverage counterparts may not go well together, the love they share is really rather beautiful. Here are some fun facts:

1. Coco has an office on the set of Law and Order: SVU (I bet she was as upset as Julia and I about Elliot Stabler’s departure).

2. Ice and Coco share a cell phone because they are always together.

3. Coco loves only 2 things more than her shoes: Ice, and their dog Spartacus.

4. On this season of “Ice Loves Coco” they were working on turning Spartacus into a dog model- maybe he and Billy can be friends!

Thanks to Nora and Erica, I now know that there are such a thing as socks for flats. I have never been one to want to buy heels. I think this is mostly because I am extremely inpatient and heels slow me down. I got places to go. You know, I learned this at from Dr. Suess at an early age.

Christmas Videos Recommended by Matt and Self Promotion Meets Billy Joel the Dog

I was being a total idiot and did not realize that Last Christmas was a Wham! song. I also did not realize that George Michael was in Wham! I also did not realize how INCREDIBLE and EPIC the video is. The Brits do some things right, I suppose. Thank you to UK Correspondent, Matt, for sharing these videos with us. If you have a moment, please comment and send him your apologies about the Welsh rugby team getting screwed over by a horrible ref that made a bad call in France’s favor. BOO.

Today I had the honor of meeting Billy Joel the dog. He was one of the most amazing dogs I have ever met. He is not jumpy, nor does he smell. These are two qualities about dogs that I dislike, but Billy was just like a small friend. He also was a very good subject for photos. He has natural chemistry as a dog model. I don’t think that I have met many dogs that I like as much as him! He is Jewish and will apparently NOT be wearing any Easter clothes according to his mother. I think a springtime outfit might be okay, though.

Billy’s sister Nora and his mom Debbi took him to the salon today and he fit right in. He loved wear curlers and sitting under one of those alien things. ”Loved” might be an overstatement, but he definitely tolerated it. Billy’s dad helped pose him.

When I met Billy, I was taken by his ability to be able to work in the dog model industry. He did not get tired during or shoot and he did not complain at all. I think he might have what it takes to strike a pose. Get ready, Tyra.

Thank you to our editor at large, we will NEVER forget about how cute bears can be. I appreciate his seriousness about this issue and his ability to love bears of all kinds.

On a more important note, Billy Joel has just been adopted by a close friend of the blog. Nora, in addition to being Billy’s sister, is a great ally in the fight for for Daly City/Target/Colma.

Billy Joel is named after the singer. Here he is pictured in his halloween costume. He is currently on a San Francisco tour, but plans on traveling to the East Coast and Europe and Brazil later in the year. Please welcome him to the blog community! He cites Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Glee, and Beyonce as inspirations.

Fall is here…or is it a heat wave?

My birthday is upon us, which means it’s fall and that I have been sending many annoying emails to my parents about presents I want. Actually I just really want a Lego Volkswagen van. I mean, I’m no historian but I would say that this is a very reasonable present for a 27-year-old woman.

In addition to it being almost November, it is HOT in SF, so hot that I used my sock monkey ice pack given to me by my cousin Janeix for the first time. I also used a cooling mask as a headband. I also made hamentaschen. All very normal things to do in times of heat waves.

I have not been blogging in almost a month. This is due to:

1. increased twitter usage

2. watching all of Downton Abbey, Russian Dolls, Parks and Rec, The Playboy Club (RIP), and Pan Am

3. being addicted to writing Yelp reviews

4. feeling inferior to this site

5. laughing at things my dad says

That said, I apologize. I am very impatient person and I apologize to people who wanted to hear my fascinating thoughts.

Sweater love

Today Ted gave me a sweater that I think is pretty ugly and 90s. I needed it because it was cold and I didn’t have a jacket. He told me people would hit on me. A girl on the bus told me she liked my sweater and that it looked very “native.”

Here is a picture of my friend Luna Dogtoroff. She LOVES presents. Here she is on her birthday opening some. I would love to hear comments about how people are liking the dog coverage. I have heard mostly positive coverage, except for Alex P who is sick of it.

In other news, I did some hipster art installions on my wall. They are made out of plastic.

Posey the puppy his best friend Cooper

Posey is the new puppy of my dear friend Elizabeth’s parents. I have yet to meet her, but she is VERY fluffy, and she is named after Giants catcher and last year’s Rookie of the Year Buster Posey. Apparently if Posey had been a boy, he’d be called Buster. I would be called John. I’m glad we’re both girls. Posey enjoys playing on the beach, spending time with her best friend Cooper, and jumping around (that is just a guess.) I am glad that Posey appears to be in good health because her namesake has been out for most of the season.

I like that Posey is very furry and has a look “Yeah?” in this photo.
